Light bollard re-installed at entrance of 240 building

When he wasn’t hosing down the stairs, Jeff took time over the Thanksgiving weekend to re-install the light bollard that had been missing from in front of the 240 building (Jeff is a certified electrician, so he is qualified to do the work). The bollard was recovered after getting knocked over in the past year.

Here it is, lighting the way again:

Phase 1 Membrane Project, Day 37 (October 14, 2025)

Phase 1 Membrane Replacement Project

Project Mobilization Date: August 11, 2025
Work Start Date: August 28, 2025
Expected duration: 2–3 months (Completion now expected in January 2026)
Primary contractor: Prostar https://prostar.ca/

Weather: 16C, sunny

Work done today:

  • Electrical box and wiring from 244 building have been removed. These will be restored after application of the new membrane material, in a different configuration that will not affect the membrane.
  • Krystol waterproofing material applied around the ventilation shed adjacent to the 244 building as extra protection before the new membrane is installed (this is sometimes referred to as “Kryton” material, but that is the company name: https://www.kryton.com/)
  • Rubber patches have been temporarily applied on the concrete slab between the 244 and 248 buildings to help prevent leakage until the new membrane is applied.
  • Workers onsite: At least two.

The new membrane should be installed next week and application is expected to take several days. The new material does not require pristine, dry conditions, so weather will not be a significant factor.

Stair and path clean-up around the 244 building

Over Friday and Saturday, Jeff and I brought out the hoses and cleaned up the concrete path that wraps around the 244 building, as well as the stairs facing Allen Street.

I’m not sure if they have ever been hosed down before, so we were clearing away years of accumulated dirt and crud. We were also careful to not accidentally hose anyone passing by. 🙂

    • The third is adjacent to the steel staircase, closer to the 248 building
  • Workers onsite: Observed two, possibly more

The three drains:
