It’s not the most exciting news in the world, but there is now a bin in the 244 garbage room for styrofoam. Currently it’s best to keep the lid closed, because the lid is the only part where it states it is for styrofoam. Better signage will be provided soon.
Please don’t put styrofoam in any other bin, including the dumpsters, as we get charged extra for its removal.
As a reminder, there are also two glass-only bins in the garbage room. More signage will be provided for these soon, but in the meantime, keep the lid on one bin down, so people can see they are meant for glass only.
Finally, when I was in the garbage room today, I noticed the dumpster for flattened cardboard only was full of…everything, including:
- writing paper
- packing paper
- wrapping paper
- paper bags
- envelopes
- cup and bottles
- bags of garbage, like McDonald’s delivery bags full of dirty napkins, cups, etc.
I spent some time moving items to the garbage, containers and mixed paper bins, but PLEASE do not put anything but flattened cardboard into this dumpster. The front is clearly labelled flattened cardboard only, and we have plenty of other bins for all appropriate items–use them! If the cardboard dumpster keeps getting misused, we may again incur extra costs.
Take the time to dispose of your recycling and garbage properly–everyone benefits!
